Florida Criminal History Records Check
FDLE Instant Search lets you print or email the result, but it is not certified.
Match the FDLE product to your purpose
FDLE is Florida’s state criminal-history repository. Its public Florida check is not a nationwide record search or the complete file of a particular court prosecution. First ask whether the recipient needs an uncertified result, a certified mailed response or an agency-directed check. That choice determines how to order and where the response goes.
Adult Florida criminal-history records are generally public unless sealed or expunged. A history can include an arrest and its later disposition, including dismissal, acquittal or withheld adjudication. Read the outcome rather than equating every arrest with a conviction, and obtain the responsible court’s order if the specific prosecution needs document-level verification.
Instant Search: immediate, uncertified and charged per search
Use the Instant Florida Criminal History Search link on FDLE’s Florida Checks page. It returns results immediately for printing or email, without certification. Each search costs $24 plus a $1 card-processing charge, paid by debit or credit card. The $25 is charged even if no record is found.
The required search identifiers are name, race, sex and date of birth. Review them carefully before submitting. If several candidates match, the system can offer up to five; one selected candidate’s history is included in the fee, and each additional selected candidate costs another $25. Compare all available demographic information rather than choosing the first name on the list.
Certified or staff-searched results are ordered online
The Certified/Non-Certified option asks for demographic information so FDLE staff can search. The response can be notarized and is returned by regular U.S. Mail. The price is $24 per search, paid by debit or credit card. Published processing is five business days for non-certified requests and six–seven business days for certified requests, excluding postal delivery.
FDLE stopped accepting the former mailed Florida Criminal History Information Request forms in July 2020. Order through its current online product links even when the response will arrive by mail. Give a usable return address and keep the transaction reference; mailing the old form is not the current ordering method.
An ORI identifies the authorized recipient
For the ORI search, obtain the valid identifier from the requesting agency or organization; FDLE cannot supply it for you. Results go directly to the recipient associated with that ORI, and pricing varies with the governing statute or authorized entity. A result that you print and email from Instant Search is not automatically an acceptable substitute.
An authorized state-and-national employment or licensing check is a separate fingerprint workflow. FDLE directs applicants to registered Livescan submitters and the requesting agency’s instructions. Its Applicant ORI Fee Search requires the full ORI; its transaction-status tool requires the complete Transaction Control Number, or TCN. Save that number from the fingerprint provider to check the correct submission.
What a possible match or no record actually means
A name-based response is limited by the identifiers submitted and the information available to FDLE. No result can reflect a sealed or expunged record, an unreported or not-yet-entered fingerprint submission, or an arrest outside Florida’s public-search scope. Do not describe an empty search as proof of a nationwide clean history.
Keep the name and other inputs, selected candidate, service type and search date with the result. If two candidates remain plausible, leave the attribution unresolved. The public Internet response masks most of the Social Security number, so available identifiers must be read together. For a missing disposition, retain the history and the court’s actual order separately rather than silently replacing the repository text.
Use Personal Review to inspect and challenge your own history
FDLE offers Personal Review without an FDLE service fee to the individual or the individual’s designated attorney. It cannot be used to obtain someone else’s history. Complete the Personal Review form and include fingerprints taken by a law-enforcement or criminal-justice agency; that agency may charge for fingerprinting. Mail the form and card to FDLE, PO Box 1489, Tallahassee, FL 32302-1489, attention Criminal History Record Maintenance Section.
This response is for checking accuracy and completeness. It omits demographic information and is not usable for immigration, employment, licensing or certification. Use the certified-search product when that is what the recipient requires. Juvenile records have statutory release limits; a personal review’s scope should not be assumed identical to a public search.

Before ordering again because a result has not arrived, distinguish agency processing from postal delivery and verify the chosen service and destination. For an agency fingerprint check, use the TCN and ask the recipient whether it received that transaction. A new paid public name search will not redirect an existing ORI response or correct the original history.
